Week 5 - Building Strength and Strategies

This week brought some new challenges and great victories. Sam introduced his own pool noodle swords during one of the sessions, which brought a lot of excitement and even inspired the idea of incorporating them more frequently. There was a moment of misunderstanding when setting up for an activity, but it was quickly smoothed over, reinforcing the importance of clear communication.
Sam reiterated his feelings about past schooling, but the focus remained on the progress being made now. During sessions, the song game and live Beat Saber continued to be highlights, with moments of fun like a lively Saber war.
Later in the week, Sam worked through multiple activities on the treadmill, performed live Beat Saber, and used mini tennis rackets to enhance the experience. Afterward, he and a therapist even played pickleball—a significant milestone for his physical activity levels. The session was deemed a huge win, as it marked the most activity Sam had achieved in a single session.
Games like Bananagram, the ghost game, and Cat Chaos were also part of this week's sessions. The ghost game added fun and creativity, while Cat Chaos allowed time for deeper conversations about identifying symptoms and building a toolkit for different situations. A discussion about sleep drive brought valuable insights, ensuring everyone stayed aligned in addressing challenges like restlessness and insomnia.
The week ended with a collaborative session where more tools were reviewed to help Sam during episodes. These tools addressed both his needs and strategies for those around him, focusing on ways to balance and refocus depending on the situation.
Each session brought moments of progress and discovery, showing how much can be achieved through determination and teamwork.
